2 → Enshrine 2022 - Current
‘Enshrine’, is an ongoing project understanding the aesthetics and languages of the reverent.
Beginning in 2022, abstracted brass shrines have been created and installed around my neighborhood as an ode to the religious practices I have engaged in since birth.
Once a Shrine is installed, I try to document on google maps. Sometimes they last, sometimes they break away.
I find it particularly interesting having public shrines placed in context with the ‘Australian’ suburban landscape. These Shrines don’t represent a particular deity, but are more a practice of giving respect to the surrounding environment (or the plant placed inside).
Some documentations of these shrines were later presented at Photo Hanoi 23’ as part of the work ‘88 Shrines’.
An Earlier Shrine that had broken off its pole. Maybe
I installed it too low down, it’s nice to see the patina over time.
